Our Giftless Anniversary

Our ninth wedding anniversary was only days away when my husband and I made a similar confession: buying just the right gift or doing something in hopes of bringing real joy to the other was burdensome for both of us, and filled with frustration. So we made a pact that year to skip the gifts and avoid the stress. Now don't get me wrong... we had a wonderful and fun anniversary as we do each year. We just didn't commemorate it with gifts.

After our anniversary passed, I realized that our "gift stress" continued throughout the year - whenever we wanted to find that amazing gift to mark special occasions.

That's when it hit me: I need to figure out what truly delights me and share that with him. That introspective journey resulted in my very own Delight Me List, which has brought me so much joy. Every time my husband refers to it and surprises me with one of my delighters - big or small, special occasion or not - I see the pride and relief as he watches how giddy I am with excitement.
